We complete all course related requirements and client specifications. The Dunn Edwards Project Liaison acknowledges fulfillment of the contract by signing the Design Completion Document.

Mar-9-2004
We finish implementation of all functionality included in the specification with the exception of user, administrative user, and system documentation.

Mar-5-2004
Benjamin continues implementation of the administrative functionality of the application. Conley finishes color chooser and paint number translation modules and begins implementation of the color search engine and color image matcher.

ABC Paint Contract WebLog

About the ABC Paint Contract WebLog
The WebLog is a place where ColorKast developers can collaborate on the project. This allows simultaneous review of the progress by ABC Paint and our Project Liaison.

    Key to the WebLog
  • Grey: Represents entries associated with the project and other class requirements.
  • Black: Represents entries associated a client and company relationship, and out weblog entries they wold receive in regards to overall progress.

Mar-5-2004
Benjamin continues implementation of the administrative functionality of the application. Conley finishes color chooser and paint number translation modules and begins implementation of the color search engine and color image matcher.

Mar-1-2004
Conley begins to implement the tier one color chooser and paint number translator. Benjamin begins the implementation of an user and color administration module.

Feb-27-2004
Benjamin and Conley finalized the decisions to utilize PHP as the user interface design language for the application.

Feb-22-2004
Benjamin finalized the spatial indexing API abstraction layer in order to integrate it into the graphical user interface.

Feb-22-2004
Conley acquired color datasets from paint company and designer collections. Utilized collections to populate postgreSQL and Spatial databases with color data.

Feb-21-2004
Started development of the abstraction layer for both the spatial API and postgreSQL database.

Feb-20-2004
Finished server-side implementation of the spatial database and search engine.

Feb-16-2004
Benjamin and Conley agreed upon an open-source API based architecture in order to provide a full featured and expandable solution.

Feb-15-2004
Benjamin and Conley searched for spatial indexing solutions, both ground up and API based architectures.

Feb-13-2004
Benjamin and Conley finalized the software requirement specification.

Feb-12-2004
Benjamin and Conley worked on developing the software requirement specification, given the input from the client and the current capabilities of modern software and hardware.

Feb-9-2004
Benjamin and Conley started researching possibilities for seearching multi-dimensional datasets using a variety of methods and resources.

Feb-6-2004
Benjamin transcribed the audio from the client requirements specification interview.

Feb-5-2004
Conley compressed and cleaned the audio from the client requirements specification interview.

Feb-4-2004
We completed our client requirements specification interview. The client interview was conducted with Mr. Richard Flores of Dunn Edwards Paint in Colton, California. He was impressed with our questions, preparation. He expressed encouragement that some of problems in his domain would be solved.

Jan-31-2004
We scheduled an interview with Mr. Richard Flores of Dunn Edwards Paints for Wednesday 2/4/2004 at 9AM.

Jan-30-2004
We updated and modified the website to better serve clients for tracking developement and easy updating of the client software.

Jan-28-2004
Created a preliminary question list and outline for client requirements specification interview.

Jan-26-2004
Attempted to enumerate possible issues the client may ask.

Jan-22-2004
Began estimating minimum hardware requirements, for both the server and client applications.  These are estimates for creating a basis requirement for the client once the application has been agreed upon.

Jan-21-2004
Conley and Benjamin discussed general licensing and cost of outsourcing certain API modules.

Jan-21-2004
We setup preliminary database structures and became familiar with possible DBMS solutions.  Discussed possible DBMS difficulties associated with both short term integration and long term maitenance.

Jan-19-2004
Began to create a general framework to be layed out to the client to present a clear and concise vision as well as a picture to capture the magnitude of the project.

Jan-16-2004
Continued design of the project website.

Jan-15-2004
Conley and Benjamin reviewed the project description and started creating the project webpage.

Jan-14-2004
Conley and Benjamin made the final decision for the name and the domain the project is going to tackle. Benjamin started researching databases and languages that would be most useful for creating a solution that would be easy to manage and develop. Conley worked on creating project description from the customer's perspective and started researching platforms for the application.

Jan-13-2004
We started throwing around ideas for the project including what datasets were available for searching and what kinds of questions would be interesting to answer using spatial analysis.  We began researching the product design methods we would use while creating the solution.

Jan-8-2004
Conley and Benjamin created a group.
